Vote in the Primary on September 13!

Regardless of party, the top two vote-getters in the non-partisan primary on September 13 will advance to the November general election. Remember to cast your vote — and remind your St. Paul friends and neighbors to cast their votes — for Elizabeth Dickinson for Mayor of St. Paul!

When do I vote?

Primary Election: Tuesday, September 13, 2005

General Election: Tuesday, November 8, 2005

Who is eligible to vote?

You can vote if you are:

•  

18 or older.

•  

a United States citizen.

•  

a Minnesota resident for at least 20 days before the election.

•  

not currently an inmate, parolee, or probationer for commission of a felony.

•  

not under guardianship of the person.

•  

not legally incompetent.

Who is not eligible to vote?

You cannot vote if you:

•  

are under court-ordered guardianship of the person and have not retained the right to vote yet.

•  

have been found by a court to be legally incompetent to vote.

•  

are a convicted a felon who is currently an inmate, parolee, or probationer.

Where do I vote?

Generally you vote in the neighborhood where you live. If you recently registered to vote you would have received a postcard that tells you the location of your polling place. You can also look up your polling place location on the Secretary of State's web site.

Do I need to register?

You need to register if:

•  

you have never registered to vote before.

•  

you have moved since you last registered to vote.

•  

you have changed your name since you last registered to vote.

•  

you have not voted at least once in the past 4 years.

Can I register on election day and vote?

Yes. You will need proof of your identity and the address where you are living on election day. Use one of these for proof:

•  

Minnesota driver's license, learner's permit, identification card, or receipt for one, with your current address

•  

Tribal ID

•  

If the Minnesota license, Tribal ID or MN State ID has a former address, you may bring a recent utility bill* to use with your license

•  

"Notice of Late Registration" postcard

•  

U.S. passport with utility bill*

•  

U.S. military photo ID card with utility bill*

•  

If you are a student, you can use...

- Student ID, registration, or fee statement with your current address

- Student photo ID with utility bill*

- Student ID if you are on a student housing list on file at the polling place

- Someone who is registered in the precinct where you live who will vouch for your residence

*The utility bill must have your name, current address, and be due within 30 days of the election. Utility bills may be for electric, gas, water, solid waste, sewer, telephone, or cable TV.

How can I vote absentee?

You can vote by absentee ballot if you are unable to vote in person on Election Day because you are:

•  

Away from home

•  

Ill or disabled

•  

An election judge serving in a precinct other than your own

•  

Unable to go to the polling place due to a religious observance or belief

The easiest way for St. Paul residents to vote in the primary by absentee ballot is to do so in person at the Ramsey County Elections Office between now and September 12. The office is open Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.; and Saturday, September 10, 10:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.

To obtain an absentee ballot through the mail, complete the Absentee Ballot application and mail it to the Ramsey County Elections Office (address above).
